Wadden Sea National Park

The Wadden Sea is one of the world's most important tidal flats. A large and unique nature reserve - a place full of life and experiences. The Wadden Sea is both the still surface water and the turbulent ocean outside the dike.

The Wadden Sea is full of life - in the air, in the shallow water, above and below the marshland surface. In no other place is it possible to experience so many migrating birds, in the spring as well as the autumn. The Wadden Sea can almost be compared to an international airport where, every year 10-12 million birds make a stopover to refuel before travelling on to their breeding grounds. At low tide, the Wadden Sea becomes an enormous feeding area for migrating birds. The Wadden Sea is also home to the largest population of the common seal in Denmark, just as the warm and shallow water is the natural breeding area for many of our most important fish species.

The Wadden Sea offers a wealth of fantastic nature experiences. Nature is open every day and rewards every visit with new surprises.

The Wadden Sea World Heritage site
The Wadden Sea stretches across 500 km and three countries. UNESCO has designated the Danish part of the Wadden Sea as a World Heritage Destination. UNESCO World Heritage (23. juni 2014).
