It all started with a dream about food, people and presence - and about a place where calm and taste could meet in the middle of the West Jutland nature.

They have been on Fanø for almost a year, and it is clear that Sille and Andreas Engel Hein have created something very special in the heart of Nordby.
Since opening after summer last year, Engel & Hein has welcomed locals and visitors with open arms, good taste and a warm atmosphere. It is not just a place to eat - it is a place to be.
From Copenhagen to the Wadden Sea
Sille and Andreas moved from Copenhagen to Fanø to live out their common dream. Sille previously worked at Baglokalet on Amager, while Andreas comes from a career as a press consultant - but always with a love for hosting and a good meal.
They have both been part of the Fanø Vesterland music festival for several years as food suppliers backstage, and it was precisely the island's special atmosphere, nature and people that made them take the plunge.
When the opportunity arose to take over the historic premises after Rudbeck's, the dream of a restaurant suddenly became a reality. In just a few months, the premises were transformed so that it felt like their own - and that is exactly the point.
A restaurant with soul
The food at Engel & Hein is personal interpretations, where atmosphere, hospitality and food merge into a higher unity.
The food is tasteful - made with love and respect for the ingredients, a clear menu, where each dish is well considered.
The house also provides a setting for everything from everyday lunch to life's big parties. Events and concerts are also often arranged in combination with food.
It's about people
For Sille and Andreas, it's not just about food. It's about the experience. About the smile you are greeted with when you enter, the smell from the kitchen and the interior design that tells their story.
And that is exactly what the couple has managed to create. Engel & Hein is not just a restaurant. It is a place with soul, with high ceilings and space for both contemplation and celebration. A place where the food tastes of something - and it oozes presence.
Engel & Hein have soon been on Fanø for a year, and it is clear that they have left their own, personal mark on Nordby and on the whole of Fanø.
